PHRF
PHRF: Performance Handicap Racing Fleet or "Cruising boats" These boats are raced Tuesday and Thursday evenings and selected weekends. Our fleet ranges from low handicaps such as "Breakaway" at 96 seconds a mile to smaller boats such as "Tahia" at 320 seconds a mile.
Weeknight Series
The Piscataqua Sailing Association (PSA) sponsored PHRF Fleet are up to it again. The Tuesday night sailing is what we all look forward to break up our workweek and get out on the water for some fun and friendly competition. Racing is serious on Tuesdays for those that fight for the priced starting position off the line. And for those that like to get out and sail, the races allow for FUN starts and courses that allow us to get one or two races in if depending on the conditions.
The PSA is sponsoring a Wednesday night Laser racing series, from Rye Harbor, NH launching from the pull off just 1/10 mile North of the State harbor entrance.
Thursday night is reserved for the J24 Fleet! If you don't mind a few bruises and a lot of fun come out and join the fray. The summer long event is broken up into three series of competitive racing. In 2007, we sailed 22 races over the 17 night series!
Participation in the Weeknight series requires a PSA membership. To encourage participation, PSA is offering a one-year free membership for first time members! For details including sailing instructions, schedule and membership information visit www.sailpsa.org.
Weekend Racing
Weekend racing is FREE for anyone with a sailboat for all regattas except the Smuttynose. The individual regattas are sponsored by area yacht clubs and the PSA.
Meet at government mark 2KR except for all races except the Mowers that starts off PYC dock. The warning signal will be displayed at noon. On race day, turn to channel 68 at 11am for questions, updates, course and start sequence. If you don't have a PHRF handicap, call George Spiecker at 603-964-4738 or hail Airtha on channel 68 at 11 on race day. George will get you an "unofficial PHRF number for the day".
