The Commodore’s Corner

July 2023

Summer has finally arrived!   It’s great to see everyone down at the club coming, going, or just hanging out relaxing! As always, the sunsets are amazing, and the company is outstanding.  We have already had a few great socials and more on the way!  Don’t miss the fish Fry Sugarbush (Chris Olsen) is sponsoring this Saturday 7/15.  It’s sure to be a crowd pleaser.  Member Tony Ejarque and his world famous Toes band will be rockin’ the house!

Our new Fleet Captain, John Sakovits, has been quite busy putting together some great training and general knowledge programs.  We kicked off the 2023/24 KPYC education series with the Survival at Sea Tactic Seminar on 7/12. It was well attended by KPYC members with (35) signed up. It was hosted by John McMIllan of Maine Maritime/McMillian Offshore Survival Training. John covered a wide breadth of survival planning and techniques including crew training, cold water immersion, vessel abandonment planning and survival skills. The attendees all walked away with some valuable additional knowledge.  Stay tuned for the forthcoming announcement for our August seminar on Survival at Sea Equipment seminar which will be give by Liferaft Services.

The new land permitting progress continues.  The board pushed back on the original plans submitted as we felt that we can do better for the membership.  We hope to be in front of the Town and DES in September.  In the meantime, come on down and sit by the firepit and enjoy the postcard that we live in!

A note to pet owners, the club requires pets to be leashed at all times while on the premises, and they must be kept outside the club.  We reside on a busy road with no barriers.  We want all owners and their pets to get home safely.

I look forward to seeing you all at the club!  Happy Boating!

Yours Truly,

Commodore, KPYC
